New Delhi: Ram Nath Kovind was sworn in on Tuesday as the country’s 14th President.

Chief Justice of India Justice JS Khehar administered the oath of office to Kovind. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, union ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Ambassadors and other diplomats, MPs and senior civil and military officers.

After taking oath, Kovind exchanged seats with current president Pranab Mukherjee. A 21-gun salute was also fired in honour of the new president.

In his first address after taking oath, Kovind said he is proud to follow the footsteps of former eminent Presidents like Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. S Radhakrishnan and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

"I accept the position with humility and am grateful for the responsibility," the President said in his first tweet on the official president handle.
