New Delhi: The BJP-led Union government is happy that Pakistan was rebuked by US president Donald Trump, who lashed out at Islamabad for providing safe havens to terrorists. Diplomacy experts are, however, cautious rather than being happy as China wasted no time in standing up to defend Pakistan.

A day after trump tweeted accusing Pakistan of giving nothing to the US but "lies and deceit" and providing "safe haven" to terrorists in return for $33 billion in aid over the last 15 years while "fooling" American leaders, China came out in defence of it and said that the world community should acknowledge its all-weather friend's "outstanding contribution" to counter terrorism.

Trump’s remarks, indeed, add strength to the efforts of India that has been trying to isolate Pakistan in every available international platform stating that the country is a "safe haven" to terrorists. The remarks of the US president also show that he is more eager to ally with Indian than to remain in collaboration with Pakistan in its mission.

The US in fact wishes to see India that has been assisting Afghanistan in its reconstruction, provide its forces to its mission in that country. The role Pakistan played so far in the region was to completely ‘submit’ its strength to the US’ Afghan mission, the failure of which has put the Trump administration in great distress.

However, the US president is not ready to back out. His move is aimed at saving his country’s face by projecting Pakistan as the main cause of its failure in Afghan soil. That is what he seemingly tried through his New Year tweet. To have India besides US in its move against China is also a motive.

The reaction of Minister of State Jitendra Singh on Trump’s tweet justifies that. Expressing his happiness over Trump’s tweet, the minister told ANI, “We can reasonably argue that Trump administration’s decision today has abundantly vindicated India’s stand as far as terror is concerned and as far as Pakistan’s role in perpetrating terror is concerned.”

China, however, used the opportunity to strengthen its ties with Pakistan, given the situation the Communist country is already in dispute with India over its plan for China-Pak Economic Corridor which goes through Pak-occupied Kashmir.

While cementing the ties with India’s arch rival in one side, in the other side, the transformation of political leadership in Nepal too has played in China’s favour in its moves against India. However, the Modi government which is all focused on leading its diplomatic policies to become the trusted ally of the US has been neglecting all these developments taking place in its neighborhood. Amidst the US criticism against Pakistan over its support to terrorism, the question that how many innocent people have been killed by its forces in Pakistan and Afghanistan in the name of its ‘war on terror’ still remains.
