New Delhi: Responding to Central Vigilance Commission’s(CVC) queries, Alok Verma CBI director reportedly alleged that Rakesh Asthna( his deputy in the CBI),Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Modi and PMO’s office colluded to indict former railway minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Indian Railways and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam in 2017.

Earlier, a report in The Wire said that Verma rubbished Asthana’s allegations that he had diluted the case against Yadav. On the contrary, he said Asthna in his capacity as the additional director (AD), “suppressed the fact that a complaint related to the same matter was sent to the CBI in the 2013-14 and was closed”

The case, he reportedly said, seemed to be politically motivated, because Asthana was in constant touch with Modi, then senior BJP leader from Bihar. He alleged that a senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office constantly followed up the case.

Verma also said that he could name the officials involved in the process including the senior official at Prime minister’s office.
