Modi talks of women’s safety, but shields accused: Rahul
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that PM Modi protected a BJP MLA in Uttar Pradesh accused of rape and murder, while still talking about women’s safety.
Beginning the two-day campaign trail in the poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, he addressed a public meeting and participated in a roadshow in Gwalior.
Also, the Congress president visited famous Pitambara Peeth at Datia.
He called the Modi government a suit boot ki Sarkar meaning the government of well-heeled where the poor had no place, and took a swipe at the Rafale deal.
Talking about the feel-good element in Modi’s slogan of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Gandhi said, “But when a BJP MLA [Kuldeep Singh Sengar] raped a girl in Unnao, the U.P. Chief Minister and the Prime Minister tried to save him. Neither was he expelled from the party nor did the PM speak a word about him.” The Hindu quoted him as saying.
Rahul’s comments came in the wake of accusation of sexual harassment against Union Minister M.J. Akbar.
