New Delhi: Renowned Hindi author and critic Namwar Singh, a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award, has died here, his family members said on Wednesday. He was 92.

He died on Tuesday night at the All India Institute of Medical Science's Trauma Centre.

Writer-journalist Om Thanvi said that Singh's cremation will take place on Wednesday at the Lodhi crematorium.

"The Hindi literary world has plunged into darkness. Noteworthy thinker and a harbinger of Hindi literature passed away," he said.

Singh held a Ph.D from the Banaras Hindu University, where he also began his teaching career.
