15 more tax officials facing graft charges forced to retire

New Delhi: The government has compulsorily retired 15 senior tax officials facing charges of corruption.

In what seemed a move to clean up the bureaucracy, all the officials thus got retired belong to the central indirect tax administration.

 Last week, the central government had compulsorily retired ten senior officials the direct tax administration.

 They are facing charges of extortion and have cases pending against them filed by various central agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

The 15 officials now retired were in the ranks of principal commissioner, commissioner, additional commissioner and deputy commissioner.
