Bengaluru: Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced media restrictions within the Assembly premises.

The order issued, just as the three-day winter session to be starting on Thursday, said that only Doordarshan cameras would be allowed inside.

Other channels can downlink from the output provided, similar to the proceedings in Parliament.

Earlier the HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition faced severe criticism for restricting the entry of the media into the Vidhan Souda building.

Back then, Director General’s (DG) Office had been instructed to make separate enclosures for media outside the assembly building.

However, a furore by journalists had forced Kumaraswamy to revoke that order.

Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy accused BJP of “double standards”, saying that government has no right to restrict media.

The Congress dubbed the move as the ruling party's “hypocrisy”.
