OBC reservation for Muslims unconstitutional: Shah

Bidar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed Sunday that the Constitution have no provision to provide reservation on the basis of religion. He was resonating the Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai's explanation on abolishing the 4 per cent OBC reservation for Muslims in the state on Friday.

Karnataka equally distributed the cancelled 4 per cent to two politically dominant communities in Karnataka, Veerashaiva-Lingayats and Vokkaligas, while the Assembly elections here are around the corner. The state cabinet decided to move OBC Muslims to the 10 per cent Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.

Addressing a public meeting here, Shah claimed that the Congress government, with its polarization politics, provided reservations to the Muslims. He claimed that out of greed for the vote bank, Congress never commemorated those who died fighting for Independence and 'Hyderabad mukti'.

He said that if it was not for Sardar Patel, Hyderabad and Bidar would never have attained freedom.

Amit Shah narrated the story of a cruel Nizam's army allegedly killing people in Gorata village for hoisting the tricolour. After hoisting a 103-ft tricolour flag on Sunday, Shah said that Nizam's army killed those people for a 2.3 ft tricolour. So he was proud to raise the taller flag he raised today.

While inaugurating a 20-ft tall statue of Sardar Patel and Garota Shaheed Smarak, Mr Shah said the statue is a symbol of the significant role played by the country's first Home Minister.

Inaugurating a 20 ft tall Sardar Patel statue, Shah said that the statue is a symbol played by the nation's first Home Minister. It represents Patel's role in "ousting" the Nizam from Hyderabad. "That is why this area, this Bidar, could become a part of India," ANI quoted Shah.
