Can humans be so cruel? The answer to this question is now being seen in Gaza. Children, patients, and refugees are the most vulnerable and deserving of compassion in society. Humanity consists in behaving with empathy towards them. However, all human values and international norms are in jeopardy when Israel unleashes a continuous attack on the Palestinian people. Thousands of people, most of them women and children, were killed in the airstrike by Israel on the Al Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City. The number of attacks in the last 10 days has only risen and thousands of the wounded are children. Since they don't know what tomorrow holds, they are writing their wills. That shows their state of mind and stress. It is nothing but brutality when Palestinians are struggling without water, food, electricity, and fuel. Israel is killing the entire population by cutting off essentials. What great empire is Israel going to build on top of the pile of dead children? What is the message the world is giving future generations by watching this genocide indifferently?

According to the 1949 Geneva Convention that took place at the end of World War II, the wounded, prisoners, and civilians are to be treated with humanity. Hospitals, refugee camps, and schools should not be attacked. None of that applies to Israel. There is no one to tell them that. Three of the eight refugee camps in Gaza have already been reduced to ashes. There were thousands crammed into each one. Shatvi camp was the last one and it had around 90,000 people living in an area of half a square kilometre. Jenin, the largest camp in the West Bank, was attacked several times. A UN school in Gaza, home to 4,000 refugees, was also bombed. There was a lot of death and injury in all these places. Wells, pumping stations, and reservoirs were also destroyed. The airstrike against the hospital is only the latest of the reported heinous attacks. There is no reason to think that it will be the last.

Israel and its annihilationist theory have already proven that they do not care about treating women, children, and refugees with humanity. People are seeking shelter in hospitals run by Christian missionaries thinking that it is a safe spot. However, Israel is specifically targeting them because their goal is genocide of Palestinians, and killing children and women is part of the plan. Health workers are also included among those killed. With the hospital completely destroyed, the rescue operation is also difficult.

More than 4,000 people have died in the bombing campaign against Gaza. The actual count is likely to be way higher. Thousands of unaccounted people are trapped under the rubble of buildings destroyed in the attack. According to the UN data, a Palestinian child is dying every 15 minutes. The Palestinian Civil Defense said that the attack against Baptist Hospital was one of the biggest in the past 15 years. The global body also reported that the number of children in hospitals after losing organs and surviving severe burns is horrifying.

Despite such a massive and brutal invasion and genocide, no leadership is ready to speak up against Israel. The US, always trying to be the world police, is providing full support, arms, and manpower to Israel. Every government and international organisation that refuses to demand that Israel stop these atrocities are part of the ethnic cleansing and genocide.

While governments and world leaders are enjoying the bloodshed, there is still some hope because of people who are raising their voices against war crimes and genocide. Massive rallies and protests are being held in various parts of the world including the US, Paris, and London. Thousands of people are calling on Israel to end the genocide of Palestinians. Some Jewish organisations are also saying such atrocities should not be committed in their names. However, peace seekers are not strong enough yet to correct the bloodthirst of Israel and its allies. The only hope for the helpless is in strong public movements.
