New Delhi: Residents of Delhi got to see a rare celestial optic phenomenon - Sun halo - after the rains. It is seeing a bright rainbow-coloured ring around the Sun.

The rare optical phenomenon, also known as '22 degree halo' looks like a rainbow encircling the Sun at a radius of approximately 22 degrees. It happens when sunlight refracts or bends in millions of hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the air. They are also detached hair-like clouds. Experts say that the circular shape of the halo is because of light bending at the same angle regardless of its position in the sky. The sun halo is easily visible when the Sun is relatively low in the sky because the light has to pass through a greater portion of the atmosphere.

People in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh saw the rare sight. Many also took photos and shared them on social media.
