Buenos Aires: Saurabh Chaudhary claimed the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event here on Wednesday, to continue the Indian shooting team’s best-ever outing in the mega event.

The 16-year-old Chaudhary shot 244.2 to finish ahead of South Korea’s Sung Yunho (236.7) and Switzerland’s Solari Jason (215.6).

The Indian, who had 18 scores of 10 and above in the eight-man finals, was just short of his own World junior record score of 245.5.

Chaudhary, an Asian Games and Junior ISSF World Championship gold medallist, had topped the qualifying rounds with 580 along with Iran’s Erfan Salavati.

Despite four scores of under 10 to start with, Chaudhary managed to stay ahead and then extended his domination with scores of 10.7 10.4 10.4 and 10.0. He continued to lead the pack as the finals entered the elimination stage.

Quick surrender

Archana Kamath went down to China’s Yingsha Sun 11-3, 11-7, 11-6, 1-11, 11-5 in the semifinals of the women’s table tennis event. The Indian had bested Azerbaijan’s Nign Jing 13-11, 8-11, 6-11, 11-3, 6-11, 12-10, 11-7 in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile in Hockey5s, the Indian women hammered Vanuatu 16-0, after leading 9-0 at the break,in their third match on Tuesday with forward Mumtaz Khan scoring four times and Chetna thrice.

All of India’s players except the goalkeeper entered the scoresheet.
