India centre-back Anas Edathodika has announced his retirement from international football.

The decision comes in the wake of a hamstring injury that forced him off the field four minutes into the crucial Asian Cup clash against Bahrain in Sharjah.

One of 47 debut players initiated by coach Stephen Constantine, Anas,31, picked up 19 caps for India.

Coach Stephen Constantine himself announced his resignation after India’s 1-0 defeat to Bahrain in the  Asian Cup.

Alongside Sandesh Jhingan, he played all six of the team's Asian Cup qualifiers leading to their return to the continental tournament for the first time since 2011.
