Melbourne Park: Serbian Tennis legend Novak Djokovic defeated Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas in the men’s singles of the Australian Open 2023 final to win his 10th title of the tournament on Sunday, NDTV reported.

In the match, which ran for 2 hours and 56 minutes, the scores were 6-3, 7-6, and 7-6. On Sunday, Djokovic never presented his opponent with an upper hand. With this victory, he continues his unbeaten run in the Australian Open finals.

Djokovic played a dominating game against Tsitsipas and won the first set 6-3 to place a clear dominance.

In the second set, Tsitsipas battled well and took the game to a tiebreaker.

Later, the third set became a thrilling tiebreaker of 7-6, with Djokovic winning his 10th Australian Open title and 22nd Grand Slam title. He levelled with Rafael Nadal in the number of Grand Slam titles and two clear of Roger Federer.

NDTV reports that Djokovic was in complete control throughout the final.

Post his victory, he celebrated with hand gestures, and he went to the stands to meet his team as well as his mother. He eventually returned back to the court and broke down on his chair.

After the victory, the Serbian returned to the top spot in the ATP rankings after June 2022. He replaced Carlos Alcaraz to become World No.1.

Djokovic missed last year’s tournament after Australia put a ban on him for his stance against Covid-19 vaccination.
