Hyderabad: Calicut Heroes went down fighting against Kolkata Thunderbolts in their opening campaign in the Prime Volley ball League.

In a thrilling match played at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium here in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, the team led by Jerome Vineeth came very close to winning the tie as they led 8-5 in the fifth and final set.

However, experienced Kolkata Captain Ashwanth Rai showed his calibre at the crucial juncture with well-placed spikes aided by some smart net blocks led by Kerala star Mohammed Riyasudheen turned the match Calicut Heroes went down fighting in their PVL opener in their favour at the dying minutes.

Kolkata coach Sunny Jospeh's timely calls for super points also helped the Thunderbolts towards the end.

Today, the Kochi Blue Spikers will play against the Bangalore Torpedos in their second match. The Kochi side is looking to open their account in the tournament after losing to Hyderabad Hawks in the opening match of the League.
