Attack on Prithvi Shaw: Bhojpuri actress gets remanded till Feb 20

Mumbai: A Mumbai court remanded Bhojpuri actress and social media influencer Sapna Gill in police custody till February 20 in the case of alleged attack on Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw, PTI reported.

The attack incident happened on Wednesday early morning outside a luxury hotel in Santacruz. An argument broke between Sapna and her male friend after Shaw refused to click selfies with her, it is learnt.

Police arrested Sapna on Thursday evening. Cases were also registered against her friend Shobhit Thakur and six others for alleged rioting and extortion.

As per the complaint, Just then, they were accosted by some purported fans who asked for selfies with Shaw, and he obliged them. Sapna and her friend were among them, and they insisted on a second selfie which the cricketer refused, saying he wanted privacy with his friends, IANS reported.

Enraged at the denial, the so-called fans allegedly pounded and shattered his friend's car's windshield with a baseball bat and tried to chase Shaw with the weapon.

In a viral video of the incident posted by some bystanders, the celeb cricketer can be seen wrestling with a young woman fan wielding a baseball bat ostensibly to assault him as he tries to save himself.

As Shaw and his group drove off, the fans followed them in their vehicle, and both the cars stopped near a police check-post before the matters seemed to calm down.

The complaint also said that Sapna and her friend were in an inebriated condition.
