Former Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya shared on social media an old image of the red Audi car he won after his team’s 1996 World cup victory against Australia.

The left-hander batsman scored 221 runs and bagged 7 crucial wickets becoming an outstanding all-rounder, winning the Man of the Series award that came with the car.

Years later, Jayasuriya resuscitated memories of the grand victory with the post captioning as "Golden memory: 27 years for the 1996 World Cup Man of the series Car."

Many of his fans fondly reacted to the image with one user saying that, "Not forgetting the past is always a great quality."

Another one said "Still remember this car very well.. It was the first time I saw an Audi as a kid."

Sri Lanka became the first host nation to win the World Cup while being the third South Asian to lift the World Cup trophy in 1996, according to NDTV.
