Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar walked out of a TV programme after he got into an argument with the host and was told to leave. He also resigned from his position as a cricket analyst from the state-owned PTV.

Akhtar claimed he had been treated badly and insulted on air by the host. The incident took place in the post-match show following Pakistan's five-wicket win over New Zealand in the ongoing T20 World Cup on Tuesday.

Host Nauman Niaz did not call Akhtar back when he walked out and showed no reaction at all. Other guests - Sir Vivian Richards, David Gower, Rashid Latif, Umar Gul, Rashid Latif, Aaqib Javed and Pakistan women's team captain Sana Mir appeared shocked by the incident.

After the video went viral on social media, Akhtar tweeted that Dr Nauman Niaz was obnoxious and rude when he asked him to leave the show. "I tried to save everyone from embarrassment by saying I was pulling Dr Nauman's leg with this mutual understanding that Dr Nouman will also politely apologise and we will move on with the show, which he refused to do. Then I had no other choice."

The PTV sports host, Dr Nauman Niaz, is a well-known cricket historian and analyst. He also leads the PTV sports department. Many fans have demanded an apology from him for the incident.

The issues started when Akhtar ignored Mr Niaz's questions and talked about pacer Haris Rauf and went on to praise the Pakistan Super League franchise, Lahore Qalanders and its coach, Aaqib for discovering Haris and supporting him properly.

The host was irritated by Akhtar's behaviour and said that he had been misbehaving. He added that such behaviour will not be tolerated and it will be better if Akhtar left. The drama continued after a commercial break when Akhtar said that he wanted to close the unpleasant incident and demanded an apology. Mr Niaz did not budge and started discussing the match.

Akhtar announced his resignation a few minutes later.
