New Delhi: As the India Super League fresh season is around the corner, the NorthEast United FC signed Danish defender Michael Jacobsen, IANS reports citing the club's announcement on Thursday.

NorthEast United FC tweeted, "A new face in defence! The lean, mean and evergreen Michael Jacobsen is now a Highlander."

Defender Michael Jacobsen began his professional career with the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven and has represented many top-level Danish clubs in Europe, including FC Copenhagen and Esbjerg fB.

Jacobsen, a centre-back, had made 72 youth team appearances for the Denmark national team, six appearances for the Denmark senior national team, along with 422 club appearances in Europe and Australia. In 2002, he was named the Denmark U-17 player of the year.

Further, he has appeared in top European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Cup, and domestic tournaments such as the Copa Del Rey and KNVB Beker.

After playing for several Danish clubs, 36-year-old Jacobsen moved to Melbourne City FC from Esbjerg fB in 2016 and entered Adelaide United in 2018.-

IANS reports that the NorthEast could benefit from the Dane's defending skills, along with his leadership and experience, for the upcoming ISL season 2022-23.

He is among the list of new additions such as Jon Gaztanaga, Emil Benny, Jithin MS, and Arindam Bhattacharja for NorthEast United FC this season.
