French Open: Polland's Iga Swiatek clinches second title

Paris: Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek beat US's Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 to win her second French Open title at Roland Garros here on Saturday, NDTV reports.
Swiatek has matched Venus William's record for the longest winning streak by a women's player in the 21st century. Williams had won five WTA titles and the Olympic gold medal during her unbeaten run at the start of the century.
After being defeated by Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai in February, Swiatek won six successive tournaments.
The wins had taken her from world number seven to the top of the list though it was after the last topper, Ashleigh Barty, announced retirement.
Swiatek had won four WTA 1,000 titles when Ashleigh announced her retirement. They were Doha, Indian Wells, Miami and Rome.
Swiatek had started strong during the match, not giving fair chances to her opponent to climb. Swiatek took the first and the second sets with required domination. The game lasted only an hour and eight minutes, and Swiatek had the trophy in the end.
Her next tournaments will be grass-court season and Wimbledon, NDTV reports. She will be looking for a 36th straight win. But, Martina Navratilova's 74-match streak in 1984 is a record very far away.
