Hyderabad: Calicut Heroes stormed into the semi-finals of the Prime Volleyball League by clean sweeping the hosts Hyderabad Black Hawks 5-0. The scores (15-14, 15-10, 15-14, 15-14, 15-9). This is only the second clean sweep of the tournament so far, and it came at the right juncture for Calicut.

They required a win to make it to 6 points to stay in contention, but to their surprise were able to secure a bonus point to directly book a semi spot. They now stood second in the points table.

David Lee who was adjudged player of the match displayed an all-rounder game as his spikes and blocks at the nets were brilliant. Ajithlal and Jerome Vinit also played their part in by winning crucial points, especially in the 4th set when Hyderabad was on top.

The Black Hawks faulted at the end to give the Heroes the set and eventually a 5-0 victory. For the Black Hawks, Amit Gulia and Guru Prashanth performed reasonably well, but didn't get enough support from others.

The table now stands in a tricky mode. If Kochi was able to win their last two matches against Ahmedabad and Kolkata, they will also reach 6 points along with Bengaluru and Kolkata. Then, number of sets and points won will decide the 4thsemi-finalist.

A win for Kolkata will see them through. Kochi will be hoping to follow their Kerala counterpart in winning 5-0 against at least one of their two opponents to earn a semifinal spot.

The good thing is that they still have chances along with Kolkata to do so, but for Bengaluru they will have to wait for other results. Kochi plays the Defenders today in a must win game for the Blue Spicer's.
