New Delhi: India's tennis star Sania Mirza updated on social media Tuesday morning her decision to pull out of US Open 2022, citing injury.

Mirza revealed on Instagram what she said "not-so-great news" of forearm and elbow injury hampering her from participating in the US Open.

"I hurt my forearm/elbow while playing in Canada 2 weeks ago and obviously, didn't realize how bad it was until I got my scans yesterday and unfortunately, I have in fact torn a little bit of my tendon," Mirza wrote on Instagram.

She said that she will be out for weeks, adding that it is a terrible timing.

Hinting at retirement plans without specifics she said she will keep fans posted.

Earlier last month, Sania Mirza had lost her mixed doubles semi-final in Wimbledon playing with Croatian partner Mate Pavic, according to India Today.

Sania was gearing up to reach her maiden mixed doubles final at Wimbledon.

She had begged the Australian Open and French Open mixed doubles titles with Mahesh Bhupathi in 2009 and 2012, respectively.

Mirza had also won 6 Grand Slam titles as well as the mixed doubles US Open title with Bruno Soares in 2014.

The US Open is scheduled to begin next Monday.
