Swiss Open: PV Sindhu clinches women's singles title

Basel, Switzerland: India's PV Sindhu has won the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament, winning her second women's singles title this year. On Sunday, she has defeated Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan with a straight game, PTI reported.
In a 49 minute final, Sindhu slammed the fourth-seeded Thai 21-16 21-8 here. The game was Sindhu's second successive final in the Swiss Open and 16th win over Busanan.
Sindhu was dominant in the first match with a 3-0 lead but
Busana crept up and made it a 7-7. The Thai tried to keep Sindhu away from the net, made her run around the court, but couldn't finish well. At the break, Sindhu was leading through a slight two-point lead.
While Busanan resorted to her skills of deception and drop shots, Sindhu managed her position with her retrieval skills.
Sindhu's brilliant return to the backline gave her four-game points, and she sealed the game.
In the second game, Busanan seemed uncomfortable with the side change, and she struggled to keep her length. Meanwhile, Sindhu turned aggressive and challenged the Thai with her acute angle shots. Before the interval, Sindhu reached a nine-point lead. Later she kept her cruise and reached 18-4, with calculated returns, minding frontcourt play. A Busanan kept hitting wide and long, Sindhu had the advantage and won the game.
Last year Sindhu had lost against Rio Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin.
In the meantime, India's HS Prannoy was defeated by Indonesia's Jonathan Christie for 12-21 18-21 in the men's singles final.
