Ashneer Grover compares OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s exit to his own; gets trolled

Ashneer Grover, BharatPe's former co-founder and managing director, who was fired last year, has commented on the situation of Sam Altman, the co-founder and CEO of ChatGPT-maker OpenAI.

Altman was sacked on Friday after a review found he was “not consistently candid in his communications" with the board of directors, inviting reactions from top leaders in the field. Grover drew parallels between Altman's firing and Grover's own situation in India.

BharatPe sacked Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain early 2022 over alleged financial discrepancies.

“Sam - I am going through the same things in India. First they come after your role / shares - then they come after you personally. It’s a long fight ! Stick on !! It’s a template now of the startup Boards and investors globally - all ego - no intellect. People are smart enough to see through", Grover wrote in a post on X, highlighting his own turbulent exit from BharatPe.

In his latest tweet, Grover also shared a list of five founders/co-founders, who were fired by the Board members. The list included Grover himself, Sam Altman, Travis Kalanick, Adam Neumann, and Steve Jobs.

Slamming the Board members, Grover said they lacked the ability and called them puppets of investors. In order to comprehend boardroom dramas, Grover also recommended shows like 'WeCrashed' on Apple TV, 'SuperPumped' on Voot, and his own book ‘Doglapan’.

He later deleted the post after he was trolled on social media for drawing a similarity between the five top founders, and to make matters worse, he also posted an incorrect image of Sam Altman, further compounding his humiliation.

One user wrote, “that’s not even a pic of sam altman… this whole post is embarrassing". Another user wrote, “Sam Altman doesn’t look like Sam Altman in this picture Ashneer bhai". “Full KRK vibes", another user commented.

“(Sam Alternative man) Ashneer King for a reason", another commented.

“From morning you are comparing yourself with the likes of Sam, Travis, Steve Jobs. Those are founders with ultimate innovative products, comparing yourself with them is the highest order of self-obsession. Bus kar bhai!!!"

BharatPe's allegations against Grover and his family involved a labyrinth of financial improprieties, including illegitimate payments, inflated transactions, and forged invoices.

Grover along with his wife Madhuri Jain, faces summonses from Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing in connection with the alleged fraud. Their travel plans were curtailed, and they are scheduled for questioning later this month.

BharatPe had earlier filed a civil suit against Grover and his family, alleging embezzlement and seeking damages amounting to Rs 88.67 crore. The suit outlined a saga of fabricated bills, fictitious vendors, and inflated recruitment charges, leading to Grover's resignation and Madhuri's dismissal earlier in 2022.

Meanwhile, Mira Murati, OpenAI’s chief technology officer, will take over as interim CEO effective immediately, the company said, while it searches for a permanent replacement.
