Mumbai: Apple CEO Tim Cook opened iPhone maker’s first retail store in India at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurala Complex today with great fanfare.

Apple fans travelled as far as from Gujarat to attend the opening ceremony in the city where long queues of diehards awaited them.

Deafening cheers and ceaselessly flashing selfies add zest to the opening of the 28,000 sq ft store this morning.

Apple's second retail store in India will open in national capital Delhi on Thursday.

Announcement by Apple to open its two retail stores in India has drawn media attention and public excitement, making people beeline for the store.

One Apple fan told news agency Reuters that it is not like buying from some normal store as the vibe at the store is different.

The 23-year-old Aan Shah previously travelled to New York and Boston to attend Apple store opening.

Tim Cook also shared in the excitement with a tweet yesterday saying, ‘Hello, Mumbai! We can't wait to welcome our customers to the new Apple BKC tomorrow.’

The fanfare around Apple store opening underlines the fact that the tech giant is making huge impact upon its Indian fans.

Apple already has bagged about 4 per cent in India's huge smartphone market largely dominated by Chinese and South Korean brands.

With launching manufacturing units in India, Apple is planning to gain more traction in the world’s second largest mobile phone market, according to NDTV.
