New Delhi: Amazon has showed the door to about 500 more employees in India as part of continuing downsizing.

The fresh layoffs will add to the widening pool of evictions from tech companies, affecting thousands of employees across the world.

Most of the leading tech companies reported losses over the past several months, which led to cutting jobs and tightening spending.

The situation at Amazon is no different with CEO Andy Jassy announcing broader layoffs in March, affecting nearly 9,000 employees of the company.

The fresh layoffs at Amazon is being worked out, according to NDTV gleaning information from sources.

Layoffs will take place across the company’s Web Services, Human Resources and Support department.

The report further said that some of those laid off were working on Amazon’s global teams in India.

Andy Jassy announced 9,000 job cuts in a note to staff saying that the decision has to do with ‘ongoing analysis of priorities and uncertainty about the economy’.

Amazon, the largest online retailer, has suffered slowdown in e-commerce post pandemic after people returned to their older habits.

After tech stocks declined globally, Amazon first declared layoffs of nearly 18,000 employees in January.

Although India is a large market with prospects for growth, Amazon’s e-commerce slowed down in the nation, showing volatile market conditions.
