Showing signs of Twitter descending into perhaps severe crisis, hundreds of employees on Thursday said goodbye to the network after Elon Musk made hints of "hardcore" work environment ahead.

The company's internal chat groups were reportedly flooded with farewell messages and salute emojis just as engineers declared leaving the Twitter.

CNBC news reported of hundreds of employees quitting after similar reports sighted Musk's plan to tighten up the work culture at Twitter that might add more pressure on workers.

Obviously, works must be in fear of the frenzy of work pressure after Musk told employees on Thursday in an internally delivered mail to prepare for "high intensity" long hours, adding that "we will need to be extremely hardcore".

Bloomberg reported of Twitter closing its offices till Monday to avoid the complexities of who will have access to company after mass exodus of employees.

It is not yet known the exact number of employees who may have left the social media company, even as CNBC chose not to give specific numbers.

One engineering was quoted as saying that entire teams representing critical infrastructure are voluntarily departing the company, leaving the company at risk of being able to recover. The engineer also added that Elon Musk has given skilled professionals no reason to stay and many leave.

The New York Times reported low activity at Twitter's internal messaging system " Slack" as Musk's team began monitoring messages or tweets critical of the chief.

Only a couple of days before a senior engineer was fired publicly by Musk for arguing with him on social media.

Since taking over Twitter, Musk has been firing left and right scores of employees that included some key professionals.
