Mumbai: After the close of its current fiscal year on June 30, Microsoft has laid off 1800 employees.

The layoffs account for less than 1 per cent of its total workforce of over 1.8L employees.

The teach-giant's 'role eliminations' will give boot to workers in areas including consulting, customer, and partner solutions across different regions worldwide.

The jobs are cut, the company stated, as a part of its structural adjustments to realigning business groups and roles.

However, Microsoft gives the hope of hiring new employees as it plans to invest in business and grow headcount in the year ahead.

"Today we had a small number of role eliminations. Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis, and make structural adjustments accordingly," Microsoft said.

Reports say that Google might slow down hiring for the rest of 2022. One memo from CEO Sundar Pichai told employees it will focus on its "most important opportunities" hiring engineering, technical and other important roles.

Many other companies are also in the process of either slowing down hiring or stop hiring.

Snapchat's parent company, Snap, announced slowing down its hiring process.

Elon Musk's Tesla reportedly fired some of its employees earlier this year.
