Bangkok: India's HS Prannoy beat Malaysia's five-time champion Leong Jun Hao 3-2 in the Thomas Cup badminton championship's quarterfinals and confirmed a medal on Thursday, Reuters reported.

The game went to the decider after the quarter was tied at 2-2 at the end of both doubles and two singles matches.

India had reached this stage before in 1952, 1955 and 1979, but back then, only finalists were awarded. But this time, India will have a bronze at least.

On Friday, India will take the winner of the quarterfinal between Denmark and Korea in the semis.
