New Delhi: On speculations that senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath was leaving Congress and joining BJP, the leader told reporters here that if there is such a move, he will inform the media first, PTI reported.

He had landed in the national capital on Saturday afternoon amid heavy speculations of him joining the saffron party.’ He had a brief interaction with the media, and there he told them that he would inform them if he took such a decision.

When the leader was asked about joining the BJP, he said, “If there would be any such thing, I would inform you first.” When a reporter asked if he was not denying a possible switch, he said, “It is not about denying, you are saying this, you people are getting excited. I am not getting excited, this side or that side, but if there would be any such thing, I would inform you first.”

The speculations over Nath’s switch gathered mileage after Madhya Pradesh BJP president VD Sharma said that the Congress leader and his son are welcome in the BJP if both are unhappy with Congress, particularly over the party’s decision to boycott the Ram mandir consecration event held in Ayodhya. Sharma made the statement on Friday.

He told reporters, “Kamal Nath and his son are welcome in BJP if they are unhappy with their party’s decision to boycott the Ram Temple inauguration last month and if they want to join the saffron party to serve the country and society under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi,” PTI quoted.

Further, it is widely perceived that Kamal Nath is unhappy about not being given a Rajya Sabha candidature from Congress. Further, Rahul Gandhi has been opposed to him since Congress lost in assembly polls last year.
