London: A large number of companies in UK have switched to for four-day working week pattern, Independent reported.

However, the trimming of workdays will not come with a pay cut for the days off.

The 4 Day Week Campaign that spearheaded the call hopes that the hundred companies employing 2,600 staff will create transformative change for UK.

The existing five-day week pattern, according to advocators of the four-day week, is "hangover from an old economic age that's no longer necessary".

They also claim that cutting workdays could improve productivity getting done same amount of work in fewer hours.

Early adopters of the policy found the changed work pattern attracting new employees and help retaining staff, according to the report.

Major companies in UK to adopt the four-day working week include Atom Bank and a marketing company called Awin.

They have been accredited by the campaign, meaning it has been proven that they have genuinely reduced working hours for staff rather than just condensing the same number of hours into fewer days, Independent reported.

Adam Ross, chief executive of the Awin, told newspaper The Guardian that new work pattern was "one of the most transformative initiatives we've seen in the history of the company".

Ross added that the company had seen a 'tremendous increase' in the wellness of the employee and it benefited customer service and relations, talent relations and retention.

During the early trial of the experiment in September 88 percent of the companies responded that it was going "well", according to the report.

It seems the revolutionary step towards improving the well-being of workers, while benefiting the companies, will have more takers in the corporate world.
