About 2 million people entering US via southern border: Musk

New York: Billionaire Elon Musk claimed that about two million people are crossing to the US through the country’s southern border every year.

Musk was reacting to a video that showed thousands of migrants waiting at a bridge at Eagle Pass sharing border with Mexico.

Meanwhile, the city of Texas declared an emergency as thousands waiting to cross the border, according to New York Times.

Highlighting the spiraling crisis, Texas' Mayor Rolando Salinas said 7,200 people illegally crossed the border last week, and on Monday alone the number there were 2,500.

‘Strange that there is almost no legacy media coverage of this. About 2 million people - from every country on Earth - are entering through the US southern border every year. The number is rising rapidly, yet no preventive action is taken by the current administration,’ Musk posted on X.

One footage reportedly showed migrants freely walking towards the US border.

The migrants are believed to be largely from Venezuela.

Increasing influx of migrants has begun to give huge strain on local governments of California, Arizona and Texas.

The only shelter provider to the migrants is reportedly struggling with the sudden surge.

Many of them are roaming in the streets of the city, further troubling the authorities.

‘They are walking around the streets. The hospital is getting swamped also,’ Salinas was quoted as saying.

The US Customs and Border Protection processing facility opened in 2022 in Eagle Pass has only the capacity for 1,000 people.
