London: A legislator of British Prime Minister Borris Johnson's party, the ruling Conservative Party, has been found guilty of sexual abuse of a 15-year-old boy after attempting to forcefully intoxicate him and assault him, Reuters reported.

The Opposition has demanded the lawmaker's immediate resignation.

The Wakefield area representative, Imran Ahmad Khan, 48, was convicted of the assault on the boy in 2008, despite him denying the allegation. The survivor decided to pursue the case only after Imran was elected into the parliament in 2019.

Rosemary Ainslie from Britain's Crown Prosecution Service said that after the police had multiple interviews with the survivor, they got know more about the ordeal he went through. She is pleased that the judges have accepted the survivor's evidence against Imran, Rosemary added.

The Conservatives have suspended Imran pending the trial's outcome. Now, his conviction would start an election for the parliamentary seat, which he had won from the Opposition in 2019.

Anyone who receives a jail term of more than 12 months is not eligible to become a member of parliament or continue the position they are holding it.
