Canada actually has seen a lot of organized crime: Jaishankar

New York: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday offered the Canadian side to take action if Canada provides ‘something specific’ regarding Canadian prime minister’s allegations against India, news agency ANI reported.

Justin Trudeau has triggered a diplomatic crisis between both the nations alleging that India has involvement in the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Nijjar.

Jaishanka told the ‘Discussion at Council on Foreign Relations' in New York that India is ‘open to looking at it’, and asked Canada to supply details if it has anything ‘relevant’.

‘We told the Canadians that this is not the government of India's policy. Secondly, we said if you have something specific and if you have something relevant, let us know. We are open to looking at it...The picture is not complete without the context in a way,’ Jaishankar was quoted as saying.

The minister pointed out that Canada has seen a lot of ‘organised crime’ over the last few years and India has given to the nation information regarding this.

‘…In the last few years, Canada actually has seen a lot of organized crime, relating to the secessionist forces, organized crime, violence and extremism. They're all very, very deeply mixed up. So in fact, we have been talking about specifics and information. We have given them a lot of information about organized crime and leadership, which operates out of Canada. There are a large number of extradition requests. There are terrorist leaders, who have been identified,’ he reportedly said.

The threats to Indian diplomats and attacks on Indian consulates are ‘very permissive’ from political reasons, Jaishankar said adding that a lot of these incidents have been justified claiming that is how ‘democracies work’.
