New York: The US State Department said that China's runway Covid-19 outbreak could pose a threat to the world from the new mutations of the virus.

Ned Price, the spokesperson for State Department, said that the current outbreak of Covid in China has to be addressed, Bloomberg reported.

"We know that anytime the virus is spreading in the wild that it has the potential to mutate and to pose a threat to people everywhere," Price was quoted as saying.

As concerns about China's handling of Covid-19 are growing, police on Monday pushed journalists from a crematorium in Beijing.

The reports today said that crematoriums were overwhelmed by increasing deaths as were hospitals from patients.

The US State Department's comments come amid concerns of China hiding actual numbers of covid cases and deaths.

Authorities for long claimed that Communist Party handled the virus more skillfully than the West, according to the report.

China lifted several of its strict zero Covid norms after protests a fortnight ago.

The fresh wave of outbreak follows the lifting of restrictions including quarantine and isolation.

"The toll of the virus is of concern to the rest of the world, given the size of China's GDP," Price reportedly said.
