Explosion after LPG leak at a restaurant in China restaurant kills 31
text_fieldsBeijing: An explosion at a restaurant in the Chinese city of Yinchuan has killed at least 31 people on Wednesday night.
The state news agency Xinhua reported that a leak of liquefied petroleum gas caused the explosion at a barbecue restaurant which left seven injured with one in critical condition.
‘A leak of liquefied petroleum gas... caused an explosion during the operation of a barbecue restaurant,’ the report said citing, citing the regional Communist Party committee, news agency AFP reported.
Two others had suffered severe burns, two had minor injuries and two had scratches caused by flying glass, Xinhua reportedly said.
Footages showed firefighters at the scene even as smoke billowed out of the restaurant.
The street, which is home to several eateries and entertainments, is littered with ‘shards of glass and other debris’ flying out from the explosion.
The blast occurred, on the eve the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, at The Fuyang Barbecue Restaurant, which sits at the residential area of downtown Yinchuan is the capital of the Ningxia.
Chinese President Xi Jinping directed the authorities to give care to the wounded and ensure safety in key industries.
More than 20 vehicles and 100 firefighters were sent to the blast scene, said the Ministry of Emergency Management.
