Kyiv: A man was walking across a bridge hedged by tops of the tall trees when an orange blaze descended from the skies.

Afterwards there were wreaths of smoke billowing from below the bridge. The man stood rooted for a while before turning around and running for dear life.

Videos emerging from Ukraine suggests Russia was shredding the nation to pieces hitting key targets with 84 cruise missiles on Monday and one of them, according to Ukraine, damaged a bridge that connected Russia to Crimea.

Another explosion narrowly missed the National University in Kyiv where on a street a large fire went on spewing black smoke into the sky. People were seen walking on the street, strewn with debris from the attack, while water flowed along the road probably from a broken water-main.

Russia's reinforced attacks on Kyiv drew sharp criticism from international community with US President Joe Biden calling it "brutality" and "Illegal war".

The White House offered advanced air defense systems to counter the Russian threat. India expressed deep concern at the escalation of conflict in Ukraine after Russia started a fresh wave of attacks.

India offered to support efforts to stop the war and end hostilities, while urging the parties to the conflict to return to diplomacy and dialogue.

Ukraine President Zelensky said in a video message that the nation was dealing with terrorists and there were dozens of rockets being fired aiming at the country's energy infrastructure and people.

In the thick of attacks on Ukraine, at the urgent UN General Assembly session the west sought to isolate Russia further.

The UN General Assembly chose public vote over Russia's call to hold secret ballot on whether to condemn its move to annex four regions of Ukraine. The vote on the resolution would likely be on Wednesday, October 12.

However, Russian President Vladimir Putin was in no mood to stop attack but threatened Ukraine with "severe" retaliation.

Russian attack on its infrastructure and water supply left Ukraine struggling to deal with harsh winter. Authorities in Kyiv reportedly urged people and businesses to limit energy use after attacks on the cities of Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia.
