Peshawar: It seems there is no end to terror strikes going off in public places killing innocents.

The latest of such attack in Pakistan's Peshawar during the Friday's prayer killed at least 56 people killed.

Now the Islamic State (IS) of Khorasan has claimed the blood bath's responsibility.

The outfit reportedly active in the region said in a press note that an Afghan suicide bomber executed attack.

As many as 194 others were injured when the alleged Afghan suicide bomber exploded himself at the Shia mosque, also known as Imam Bargah, located at Qissa Khwani Bazaar here.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan's Special Assistant Barrister Saif has confirmed the suicide attack, according to IANS.

"There were two offenders who entered the mosque and then engaged in an exchange of fire with the security forces, following which one attacker was killed by the police. An eyewitness identified a person dressed in black as the suicide bomber, saying he entered the mosque, shot and killed the security guard first and then fired five to six bullets at the police. Subsequently, he rushed towards the main hall and blew himself in front of the pulpit, "the report said.

The area was recovering from the shock of a recent hand grenade attack before Friday's attack. A local person said residents had urged for tighter security the attack took place

Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the attack and ordered to provide immediate medical aid for the wounded.
