Doha: Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was killed in Ramallah in West Bank in full press gear with an anti-flak jacket emblazoned with 'press'.

The veteran journalist was reporting the Israeli military raids in the city of Jenin when a bullet hit her on Wednesday.

Both grief and condemnation poured in over her unfortunate death as Al Jazeera carried stories linked to the television journalist's death.

Shortly after the incident, Israel put the onus of the act on Palestinian militants.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said it was "likely" that Palestinian gunfire killed the Al Jazeera reporter, IANS reported.

Bennett stated as per information he received the journalist was killed during the indiscriminate firing by the armed Palestinians.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas wouldn't wait to counter Israel's allegation.

Abbas blamed Israeli forces for her death calling it a "blatant cold-blooded murder by the Israeli Army".

Al Jazeera quoted the executive director of the International Press Institute, Barbara Trionfi, as saying that Shireen Abu Akleh was killed during the increased attacks against journalists in the West Bank and Gaza.

Palestinian territories saw widespread indignation following the journalist's death.

IANS quoted a Palastinian saying that Akleh was true icon and inspiration and she was killed by a settler colonial regime.

Amid global calls for an independent probe into the killing, Palestine's UN ambassador Riyad Mansour said his country would "not accept" an investigation by the "Israeli occupying authority"

Addressing media persons at the UN headquarters in New York, Mansour said: "The story of the Israeli side does not hold water, it is fictitious and it is not in line with reality and we do not accept to have an investigation on this issue with those who are the criminals in conducting this event itself."
