London: A 38-year-old Indian has been stabbed to death in Camberwell in London by a compatriot in the wee hours of Friday, the third incident in the series of shocking knife attacks against Indian-origin persons in Britain this week.

Aravind Sasikumar from Panampilly Nagar, Kerala was murdered by his flatmate, 25-year-old Salman Salim, also from Kerala. The Metropolitan Police on Saturday arrested Salim.

The two were flatmates living in houseshare in Southampton Way, Camberwell, Times of India reported.

Sasikumar was discovered with knife wounds on June 16 at a residential property on Southampton Way, Camberwell, according to the Metropolitan Police. He tragically passed away at the scene at 1:31 am on Friday, as confirmed by a police statement.

On Saturday, June 17, Salim was arrested and charged with murder. He appeared before Croydon Magistrates' Court the same day and has been remanded in custody until his appearance at the Old Bailey on June 20.

According to reports, the incident occurred following a quarrel between Sasikumar and his roommate at their shared residence on Southampton Way in Peckham, Southeast London.

The altercation escalated, resulting in Sasikumar being stabbed. The police were notified at 1:30 am, but unfortunately, Sasikumar succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was stab wounds to the chest. As part of the ongoing investigation, two other individuals from Kerala who witnessed the crime have also been taken into custody.

Sasikumar had been residing in the UK for the past 10 years on a student visa. His family has been informed, said the police.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh expressed condolences, stating, "This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts are with the man's family as they come to terms with this awful news. We will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice."

This incident follows a series of knife attacks in the UK, including the deaths of Grace O'Malley Kumar, a promising teenage cricket and hockey star, and Tejaswini Kontham, a 27-year-old student from Hyderabad. The authorities continue their efforts to address the issue of knife-related violence in the country.
