Islamabad: Pakistan President Arif Alvi has written Prime Miniter Imran Khan and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, for suggestions to appoint a caretaker Prime Minister, IANS reported.

Geo News reported that the process to appoint a caretaker PM had been started.

In the event that Imran Khan and Sharif fail to reach a single candidate within three days, both have to send two names each to the parliamentarian committee burdened with the appointment of a caretaker PM. The eight-membered committee comprises National Assembly (NA) and Senate members, and it will be formed with equal representation from the government and Opposition. It will be created by the NA Speaker.

Khan, who is also the PTI Chairman, will continue as the Prime Minister despite being de-notified as the premier till the appointment of a caretaker Prime Minister, the President's Secretariat said in a statement issued early Monday.

Imran Khan will continue as the Prime Minister until a caretaker premier is selected, the President's Secretariate informed early on Monday. However, Imran Khan was de-notified as the Prime Minister on Sunday after the National Assembly dissolution, according to Geo News.

In line with Article 224 of Pakistan's Constitution, once a notification is issued, Khan has to continue as the PM for 15 days until the caretaker PM is appointed. President Alvi informed that Khan would remain as PM for the time being.
