Rio De Janeiro: A small plane heading to tourist town of Barcelos in Brazilian Amazon crashed killing all passengers and crew while attempting to land in heavy rain.

The plane touched down mid-runway, causing to run out of landing strip and crashed, news agency AFP reported, citing Amazonas state security secretary Vinicius Almeida.

It is reported that the passengers were all Brazilian men traveling to the region for sport fishing.

‘Our teams have been on the ground responding since the moment of the crash to provide the necessary support,’ Governor Wilson Lima was quoted as posted on X.

Photos from the site of crash showed the ‘small white plane belly-down on a dirt track’ and its front end was seen crashed into the dense vegetation.

The twin-engine plane was manufactured by Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer.

The plane was at the end of the 90-minute flight from Manaus to Barcelos when the accident occurred.

At around the same time two other flights approaching Barcelos had been diverted due to bad weather.

However reports earlier said there were US nationals onboard, the preliminary probe found only Brazilian passengers.

Barcelos, bordered by several national parks and other protected areas, is a popular spot for fishing river fish such as peacock bass.
