Kabul: Taliban's effort to fly a helicopter left behind by the US forces failed, killing three and injuring five.

The Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Afghanistan's capital Kabul, said Taliban's defence ministry on Saturday, according to Reuters.

Taliban was using the copter for training exercise when the mishap occurred.

Ministry of Defence spokesperson Enaytullah Khowrazmi said that an American Black Hawk helicopter, which was for training, crashed due to a technical problem inside the campus of the National Defence University.

After the US forces left the country a year ago, The Taliban overran the nation taking over the reins and some U.S.-made aircraft left behind by the US.

While leaving the nation, the US forces deliberately damaged military hardware and flying of the helicopter suggesting its operational capability comes as a surprise to many.

Afghan forces had flown some helicopters to central Asian nations, according to the report.

USA inducted Black Hawk helicopters into young Afghan air force in 2017 to strengthen the government against the Taliban forces.

Up until then, Afghan air force worked using the Russian-designed Mi-17 helicopters as its backbone of aerial fight.

Back then, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani formally accepted the first new helicopters, calling it a "historic day", as per a report by Reuters at the time.
