In a video story published on Thursday, Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba addressed the Hijab row in happening in South India.

World Cup champion France soccer player posted a statement on Instagram showing solidarity with Muslim students protesting the administration's repressive ban on headscarves in classrooms in southern state Karnataka.


On Instagram story, Pogba, the footballer with enormous influence of the era, accused Hindutva mobs of harassing Muslim girls wearing hijab to college in India.

Former Juventus playmaker has over 51 million followers on Instagram.

A number of students had filed petitions to challenge the ban of hijabs in college in the Karnataka High Court.

Following tensions and even some violence over the matter, the state government had announced a three-day holiday for all state schools and colleges.

An international spotlight is drawn on the issue after the popular footballer intervened.

It has enraged a section of India's right-wing web-users since Pogba and his club Man United are popular in the country. Despite his position in the ongoing controversy, the player has gained the support of the fans as well.
