US principal resigns for failing to notify parents about lesson on Michelangelo

A school principal in the US resigned after complaints of exposing sixth-grade students to pornography during a lesson on Renaissance art.

The art included in the Renaissances movement that drew a parent’s displeasure is Michelangelo's ‘David’ sculpture.

The sculpture showing the wholly naked biblical figure David is an iconic one in the history of art.

Two other parents reportedly wanted to know about the class before it was taught.

Following complaints, the school board gave Principal Hope Carrasquilla an ultimatum to either step down or be fired.

Carrasquilla said she had no idea why she was asked to resign; however, she believed it had to do with the complaints over the lesson.

Carrasquilla told CNN that her school board was not happy with her as she had not always followed 'every policy and procedure'.

Barney Bishop III, the chair of the school's board, said Carrasquilla was asked to go not because of Michelangelo's David but for failing to notify parents of ‘upcoming lesson’.

‘Our school is two and a half years old. Every year we show that picture in the Renaissance Art class taught to our sixth graders,’ Bishop III was quoted as saying.
