New Delhi : India on Friday reported a total tally of 73,70,469 covid cases, adding 63,371 more alongside 895 deaths in 24 hours, showed the Union Health Ministry data.

Of them 64,53,779 have been discharged and 8,04,528 are currently active. As many as 1,12,161 lost the battle to the pandemic.

India continues to have one of the lowest deaths per million population globally, presently pegged at 80.

"Some states and UTs are performing better and reporting much lower deaths per million population than the national average," The ministry said in a statement.

India's recovery rate stands at 87.56 per cent, the fatality rate is 1.52 per cent, the data showed.

India's doubling time has sharply increased to 70.4 days, showing a substantial fall in the daily new cases.

Across states, Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 15,64,615 cases, alongside 41,196 deaths, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

According to ICMR data, India conducted 10,28,622 sample tests in a single day on Thursday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 9,22,54,927.
