Dehradun: Energy is the lifeline for all activities in a nation and in an effort to produce highly trained and competent manpower to aid the national development, The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun has emerged as an innovative institution offering industry-focused specialised graduate, post graduate and doctoral programs in key areas such as energy, infrastructure, transportation, information technology and legal studies.

Continuing the thrust, the Centre for Continuing Education at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) has come a long way as an ingenious institution imparting domain based professional distance learning programs to working professionals. With the changing times and dynamics, the Centre realizes the importance of keeping up with the pace and as such offers online versions of its distance learning programs considering the fact that e-learning is one of the thrust areas to impart education using educational tools and communication media.

Keeping in mind the growing demand for professional courses like Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), the Centre welcomes all those professionals who are eager to pursue further education to manage large and complex organisations, become adept at defining strategy, lead complicated negotiations, network globally with a passion for possibilities while being deeply committed to goals and capable of taking clear and considered decisions.

The Centre offers MBA in oil and gas, power, logistics and supply chain and aviation management, whereas BBA program is offered in aviation operations. The eligibility criteria to pursue its MBA program is a minimum work experience of two years and at least 50 per cent marks at the graduate level in any discipline preferably with a background in science, technology and commerce. However, the criterion for the undergraduates to pursue the aviation operations course is proficiency in English and Mathematics and 50 per cent marks in class 12 or equivalent. The topics have been carefully chosen for their application relevance and aim at broadly covering the management requirements of travel, tourism and aviation sector.

All these programs are for three years each and all candidates after successful completion of their courses get opportunities at various levels in varied organisations.

The courses being offered at the Centre are universally accepted with more and more students and working professionals are leveraging the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skill sets.

Highlighting the increasing number of student strength in UPES -CCE, Dr Parag Diwan, Vice Chancellor, UPES emphasizes that over 3000 students who are currently pursuing their executive MBA or part-time doctoral programs are employed in the sector at various levels, and are either sponsored by their respective organisations or are pursuing the program in order to enhance their education for better prospects in the current organization.

Market dynamism has made it imperative for the professionals to continuously re-organise and upgrade their skill and knowledge sets, tap emerging opportunities and mitigate lurking threats. Considering the opportunity cost of leaving work and joining a full time program, it is not always possible for the working professionals to take up education as a full time activity. Keeping this in mind, the Centre offers its students state of the art online option to pursue its distance learning MBA and BBA programs for their convenience and comfort so that they do not have to leave their jobs to join a full time degree program.

The students can pursue the courses while working or studying at their ease with the click of a button. They can access the course books on their tabs and smartphones, and can also access the learning management system through CCE website for anytime anywhere learning. The centre recognises the importance of internet in today’s times as more and more people are joining the cyberspace bandwagon, especially the working professionals operating out of remote locations and transferable jobs and e-learning is the mainstay of distance learning courses.
