Suriya's inspirational biopic 'Soorarai Pottru', Dhanush starred thrilling revenge movie 'Asuran' and Lijo Jose Pellissery's Oscar nominated movie 'Jallikattu' have been selected for screening at Golden Globes 2021 in Los Angeles.
The Foreign language list of 78th Golden Globe awards are out now and it consist of five Indian films.
Among five films three of them are from South film industries. Vetrimaran's Asuran has also been selected in Indian Panorama award at 51st International Film Festival of India to be held at Goa in January. Asuran which is based on Poomani's popular novel 'Vekkai' (Heat) tells the story of an impoverished farming family somewhere in Thirunelveli.
'Soorarai Pottru' directed by Sudha Kongara is based on the life of Captain Gopinath and has received appreciation from movie buffs for it's heart wrenching performance of Suriya and direction of Sudha. The movie was released at lockdown time in Amazon Prime.
Asuran was 2019's biggest box office superhit and has won four national film awards. India's official Oscar entry film 'Jellikettu' is based on the short story 'Maoist' by S.Hareesh.
Other movies which are going to be screened at Los Angeles includes Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji, The Disciple, Ludo, Harami, Just Like That, Trees under the sun. This year 139 foreign language films from 77 countries were eligible for Golden Globe consideration. A foreign language movie has to be commercially released in any country for getting eligibility.
Release can be in any format including theatrical, VOD, DVD and other streaming platforms. Movies which released between October 1 2019 and February 28 2020 are qualified for official screening selection of 78th Golden Globe awards. Multiple movie submissions from any country is allowed as the selection criteria is looking on only qualification for entry.
However, fans are overwhelmed with the announcement of foreign category list of Golden Globe 2021. Twitter stormed with Asuran, Soorarai Pottru and Jellikettu hashtags.
