Mumbai: In a new cinematic venture, Varun Dhawan is set to transition from his recent role as an image-conscious narcissist to a formidable cop in his upcoming project, titled VD18.

Collaborating with director Atlee and producer Murad Khetani, this marks Dhawan's foray into an action-packed entertainer. Alongside leading ladies Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi, another prominent actress, Sanya Malhotra, has been cast in a vital but undisclosed role, reported Pinkvilla.

Sanya Malhotra, previously seen in the blockbuster "Jawan," reunites with director Atlee for a cameo in VD18.

The details surrounding her character are closely guarded, but it is believed to carry significant weight in the film's narrative.

A source involved in the production revealed, "Sanya readily accepted Atlee's request for a cameo. She had a wonderful experience working with him on Jawan, and no way could she turn down his offer. This cameo is her way of showing gratitude to Atlee for giving her a blockbuster like Jawan. She shot for her brief sequence with Varun in Bandra earlier this month."

VD18 promises to be a compelling cinematic experience, characterised by an emotionally charged plot and dynamic action sequences.

Varun Dhawan portrays a police officer who goes into hiding to ensure his daughter's safety, while Keerthy Suresh assumes the role of his wife. The movie also features Rajpal Yadav and Sheeba Chaddha in pivotal roles. Directed by Tamil filmmaker Kalees, the film is produced by Murad Khetani and Priya Atlee, with Atlee serving as the presenter.

Varun Dhawan is expected to wrap up filming for VD18 by February 2024, with a targeted theatrical release set for May 31 of the same year.

Following this project, he will collaborate with his father, David Dhawan, for the fourth time, featuring in a comedy flick. Additionally, discussions are ongoing for a romantic comedy project with Dharma Productions, although it remains in the early stages of development. He will also appear in Raj & DK's global spy thriller series, Citadel India, set to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
