Union Home Minister Amit Dhah has arrived in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir today for the first time since the dissolution of Article 370. He is expected to chair a meeting of the Unified Command to review the on-ground situation during his three-day visit. The visit comes amidst heightened tensions due to a string of militant attacks in civilians and army clashes with terrorists in the Poonch district.

He was received at Srinagar airport by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Shah visited the home of deceased J&K police officer Inspector Parvez Ahmad, who was killed by terrorists this month. Mr Shah has offered Mr Ahmad's wife a government job.

Mr Shah is further expected to inaugurate a Srinagar-Sharjah flight and attend some rallies in Jammu. Security restrictions have been tightened as part of protection measures. The Army and J&K police have been engaged in encounters for the last two weeks, with a group of militants linked to the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit. 11 civilians and over 9 soldiers have been killed in the conflict sof ar which has been the bloodiest this year.
