Chennai: Nearly 24 hours after the death of a class 12 girl in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur, another girl student was found dead in the state's Cuddalore district.

This is the third such incident in just 2 weeks. A suicide note found at the girl's home states that her parents wanted her to crack the entrance exam for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and that had put her under immense stress.

Police said the girl was upset after her mother scolded her. A case of suspicious death has been registered, and the body has been sent for autopsy.

Concerned by the recurring deaths of teenage girl students, Chief Minister MK Stalin has appealed to them to shun suicidal thoughts.

This comes just a day after a Class 12 student of Sacred Heart School in Tiruvallur district was found dead at her hostel.

Police yesterday said no suicide note was recovered from the room of Sarala, who was from Tiruttani in the same district.

District police chief Cephas Kalyan told NDTV yesterday that the Tiruvallur case has been transferred to the specialized CB-CID wing of state police.

It is the CB-CID that is also probing the July 13 death of a Class 12 student in the Kallakurichi district.

The death of the student at a private residential school had sparked violent protests and arson that left several people, including senior police officers, injured.

Five people, including the school's principal and two teachers, have been arrested in the Kallakurichi case after police found a note that accused two teachers of "humiliating her for her academic performance".

The girl's parents, however, alleged that the crime scene had signs of physical struggle and moved court. The Madras High Court then ordered a repeat autopsy.

The high court also ordered that deaths in educational institutions be investigated by the CB-CID.
